Fill up the application
You will receive two of the charts above (FREE of charge) after July 15th, 2011. With the charts, you will receive instructions for recording submission
The twelve bands selected to the 2012 workshops and competition will receive a third chart (also free of charge)

APPLICATION DEADLINE

There is no application deadline. However, deadline for recording submission is November 23rd, 2011

What is the cost of the application?
There is no application fee

Why should my high school jazz band apply?
Swing Central Jazz is a program dedicated to the education of high school jazz musicians. We provided a unique approach to teaching. Clinicians include Marcus Roberts, Wycliffe Gordon, the Clayton Brothers and many more. This three day intensive program is staged in beautiful Savannah Georgia during the Savannah Music Festival. Many opportunities to attend performances of first class musicians are also available.

What happens after I send my application?
We will send you the following charts at no cost: "Sweet Georgia Brown" arr. by Sammy Nestico for The Count Basie Orchestra and "Grease Bucket" by Wycliffe Gordon. These two are the required recordings that you can summit to Swing Central Jazz. The best twelve recordings will be invited to participate in the 2012 Workshops & Competition.

What if my band is selected?

We will send you "Conservation" by Bobby Watson also at no cost (this chart in addition to "Sweet Georgia Brown" and "Grease Bucket", will be use during the workshops & competition)
We will schedule a school visit in which one of our clinicians. He will work with your band prior to your arrival in Savannah. Most likely to be during the month of February 2012
In our effort to help raise funds for the trip to Swing Central Jazz, we will give a $500 stipend to the twelve bands selected to participate

What do the winners of the competition get?

First prize: $5,000
Second prize: $2500
Third prize: $1000
